Wolfberry juice or perhaps better known as goji juice has become recently become extremely popular in the US thanks to extensive marketing which seem to claim that the wolfberry fruit has amazing mystical powers that can give us constant health and everlasting life. Despite some of the claims, drinking wolfberry juice is not going to make us live forever or develop super powers, but it does have some amazing antioxidants health benefits that are certainly worth looking at.

Does Wolfberry Juice Live Up To Its Claims?

With all the hype surrounding the wolfberry juice or goji juice, you have to wonder if it is really all that the promoters make it out to be. Wolfberries have been used for centuries in Chinese herbalism and thought by the Chinese to aide in the healing and prevention of many different types of diseases and ailments such as liver disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Recently the wolfberry started catching on in parts of Europe and the US and started being marketed as an “antioxidant super-fruit”.

Amazingly enough, there is quite a bit of truth to that claim. Scientific studies have shown the wolfberry to contain extremely high amounts of antioxidant levels which are thought to reduce the risk for heart disease and even cancer. Not only is the wolfberry fruit high in antioxidants, but it has proven to be high in iron, riboflavin, calcium, zinc, potassium and vitamin C.

It’s difficult to decipher which brand of wolfberry or goji juice actually contains all of the benefits that the bottle claims. Look for things like the USDA organic symbol on the bottle or low sugar content. It is very rare to find a juice containing only wolfberry juice, but try to find one that contains mostly wolfberry juice and few other additives.

If buying online, do your research and find out which sites are reputable and which are not.

POM juice contains no added sugar, preservatives or other types of filler, just 100% juice. POM juice is made from pomegranates which are filled with antioxidants which may prevent or reduce the number of free radicals (potentially harmful molecules). In other words, this antioxidants drink can help to prevent heart disease and cancer as well as increase proper blood flow.

Is Drinking POM the Only Way to Get Antioxidants?

Although POM juice is a quick and convenient way to get your antioxidant fix, you can find many other sources of antioxidants in your local grocery store, garden or farmer’s market. Antioxidants are found naturally in all kinds of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts. Eating pomegranate fruit itself, although a bit messier, would give you the same benefit as drinking a bottle of POM. Antioxidant rich foods can usually be noted by their bright colors. Watermelons, blueberries, strawberries, concord grapes, sweet potatoes, carrots and green leafy vegetables are only a sampling of the wide array of antioxidant rich food that is available to us at our fingertips. Are There Any Down Sides to POM Juice?

While the makers of POM do claim that there is no added sugar in their drink, the nutritional information tells us that there are 34 grams of sugar in one 8 oz. serving and 160 calories. So, if you are watching your calorie intake, there are probably better ways to get your antioxidants drinks without busting your diet. The other negatives factor is that POM juice is expensive. Most grocery stores sell a 16 oz. bottle of POM for well over $4. An extensive Ad campaign and fancy bottling contribute to the high cost of POM.
